Kathleen is a Salt Spring Island based artist.
Born in 1953 in Edmonton Alberta, attended Portland Museum School of Art and earned a BFA from the School of Visual Arts, N.Y.C. USA.
"Many of my paintings are inspired by the landscape around me, abstracted for freer expression. Some recurring themes that might appear in my paintings include the play between outer and inner space, the macro and micro in nature's repeating patterns, and attempts to evoke the light and weather.
Looking up at a vast sky or down to that patch of lichen or those wormwood tracks, almost everything given attention is potential subject matter.
I hope to convey something of the awe and reverence we feel toward nature, that now comes hand in hand with fears for our earth, this potential paradise.
I find my way through the prism of the imagination, appreciating the medium of paint that often leaves unintended beauty. It's an organic process, that I respond to as it goes along,
A huge source of inspiration comes from other artists, and many of those draw from the natural beauty of Canada's west coast. "
